I have known Larry Pittman for over 25 years. I first met Larry when he was Director of Economic Development for the municipality of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador. My husband and I were in the start-up phase of opening an industrial fabrication company and were seeking advice and guidance on how to do so.
Larry was instrumental in helping Pressure Pipe Steel Fabrication get its operations moving in the right direction. Larry helped us with our business plan and provided advice on how to market our products and services to potential customers. Larry created and wrote the material for our first ever company profile brochure.
As a female, aboriginal entrepreneur, in a non-traditional business for a woman I have consulted with Larry many times over the past 25 years. He has been a great supporter of me and my businesses and I would not hesitate calling upon his business knowledge and experience if the need ever arises.

As the former and original chair of the Goose Bay Airport Corporation (GBAC), I along with others, had the pleasure of hiring and subsequently employing Larry Pittman.
During his tenure as General Manager of GBAC, Larry was tasked with the many vagaries of running a fledging organization which included day to day operations, but was not limited to solely “the routine”. Emergency situations, though not common, were handled by our GM with diplomacy and management expertise. Goose Bay airport facilities saw significant utilization during the 911 crisis and Larry managed our role in this emergency situation with dexterity, tact and diplomacy. Decision making during a crisis is oft times trying to the novice.
Larry Pittman handled the GBAC affairs professionally throughout his stay at the corporation. Civilian involvement in crisis situations at a military owned aerodrome was quite tricky and trying; suffice it to say that civilian involvement at the Goose Bay aerodrome and the waterdrome needed a quick thinking as well as a committed individual. Larry provided us well with these character traits.
Larry performed admirably as the General Manager of the Goose Bay Airport Corporation. I am happy to attest to his abilities.
Sincerely,
D.L. (Dave) Hollett,
Former Chairman, GBAC
During the 911 crisis I worked as the Transient Aircraft services manager at 5 Wing Goose Bay.
During the crisis I was one of the civilians that worked closely with the military, RCMP, Transport Canada & the local airport authority to handle the chaotic situation.
The airport manager at that time was Larry Pittman. Larry played an instrumental role in taking ownership of the situation and played a vital role in the coordination, logistics, and operational success of the mission that had been plunged upon Goose Bay that week.
Larry’s dedication to detail, ability to think outside the box, great communications skills, his concrete advice and ability to lead in a crisis situation were all factors that saw him be a vital contributor to resolving the many issues that came to be as a result of the crisis. It is my strong opinion that Larry has proven to be a vital team player & leader in any crisis situation and is a champion of working in any crisis theatre situation not having a script.
