September 11th, 2001 is a day that impacted the world. For Larry Pittman, previous Public Relations manager at 5-Wing Goose Bay Airport 18 years ago, his morning was about to change forever. We all remember where we were on that day. It was a day when we stood still together in disbelief. It was a day when thousands of hand-working individuals gave everything they could offer to help accommodate those in need all over North America.
Meanwhile in Newfoundland and Labrador (notably Gander Airport and the entirety of Atlantic Canada), Goose Bay Airport had to make quick, tactical decisions to house and accommodate 6000+ stranded passengers in their time of need in a community of only 3,000 residents. On that day, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians united together to make the impossible possible. This is their story.
